Review: Proxy by Alex London

The Details
Title: Proxy
Author: Alex London
Number of Pages: 384
Publishing Date: June 18, 2013
Publisher: Philomel

The Synopsis
Knox was born into one of the City’s wealthiest families. A Patron, he has everything a boy could possibly want—the latest tech, the coolest clothes, and a Proxy to take all his punishments. When Knox breaks a vase, Syd is beaten. When Knox plays a practical joke, Syd is forced to haul rocks. And when Knox crashes a car, killing one of his friends, Syd is branded and sentenced to death.

Syd is a Proxy. His life is not his own.

Then again, neither is Knox’s. Knox and Syd have more in common than either would guess. So when Knox and Syd realize that the only way to beat the system is to save each other, they flee. Yet Knox’s father is no ordinary Patron, and Syd is no ordinary Proxy. The ensuing cross-country chase will uncover a secret society of rebels, test both boys’ resolve, and shine a blinding light onto a world of those who owe and those who pay. Some debts, it turns out, cannot be repaid.

The Talk

Whoa. Just Whoa.

Okay so the main thing that I liked about this book is its technicality. When I was first read the thing about the biotech patches and Syntholene and the Maes gang, I was really impressed. Being a fan of Doctor Who myself, I found the specificity of the terms and the elements, much more the characters, appealing.

And then there's the personality of the characters themselves. Syd, the protagonist of the story, is a proxy from the Valve. Little did he know that there's something planned for him beyond his imagination. I adored him, and I loved the fact that his ''lovelife'' wasn't cliche at all (hehehe).

Then there's Knox. I LOVED HIM TOO. I liked how his name was somewhat complicated, a name only a patron could have. I also thought that he was a sweetheart. I have to admit that I was a little bit annoyed at him during the first half of the story, though. BUT UGH. THE ENDING! The ending killed me. And of course, Marie. I don't know, I guess Marie's okay. Well, she's a Cause girl that suddenly put her faith in Syd. I'm kinda yearning for more interesting things about her. Can't wait to buy Guardian!

Lastly, the plot. I will make this short, but basically, I devoured every page of Proxy when it got to the good stuff. I mean, really! One chapter they were facing thugs, the next, cannibals? The bad things that happen to them pile up quickly, and I didn't even believe that there's a sequel because the ending was so PERFECT. Proxy could've been a stand alone, for sure.

The Rating

I give this book four out of five grenades! I relished each and every moment!!!! And I do hope that you guys would like this one as much as I did!
